The Ontario Hockey League is deepy saddened by the loss of former players John Spoltore and Vince Scott.
Spoltore, a 38-year-old who was born in Bridgeton, New Jersey and grew up in Kitchener, ON, passed away Friday after a battle with brain cancer. Scott, a 23-year-old from Mississauga, ON, died in an automobile accident on Wednesday morning.
Spoltore played four OHL seasons with the North Bay Centennials from 1988-92. He scored 131 points in 66 games played during his final season and captured the William Hanley Trophy as the league's Most Sportsmanlike Player and the Leo Lalonde Trophy as the Overage Player of the Year. He continued his hockey and education at Wilfrid Laurier University where he competed for three seasons before playing professional hockey.
Scott played four OHL seasons from 2003-07 beginning his career with the Erie Otters where he appeared in 202 games and collected 71 points before finishing his career with the Sarnia Sting. He continued his education attending the University of Prince Edward Island for two years before transferring to Brock University where he led the Badgers with 25 points in 25 games.
